Simulated
Coursing - 10.00am
The National Lurcher and Racing Club
www.gonetoblazes.net/NLRC/Index.htm
The National Lurcher and Racing Club were formed in 1980 by a
group of Lurcher enthusiasts from the West Midlands. The NL&RC
has gone on to be the largest and arguably the most successful
Lurcher Club in the world. Formed at a time when Lurchers had
the reputation of being poachers' dogs and "untrained killers",
the NL&RC takes great pride in the part that they have played
in bringing Lurchers to be a recognised and respected member of
the field sports fraternity.
Today Lurchers are used for pest control, mostly
on rabbits. They are a purpose-bred crossbreed and are very biddable,
making excellent pets and are quite happy to live alongside other
animals in the family home provided that they have been properly
trained. To learn more, please see members of the Club after the
Simulated Coursing, at the Lurcher Show Ring or the Lurcher Racing.
Vintage
Tractors - 11.00am
The parade of local vintage tractors and traction engines is a
firm favourite with our visitors, many of which can remember these
machines in use on farms in our area. Those of you wanting a close-up
view can see the static display of the tractors and engines near
the Farmers' Market throughout the day.
Harness
Goat Society - 11.25am
www.harnessgoats.co.uk
The Harness Goat Society was formed in January 1987 with the aim
of promoting good management to benefit the welfare of harness
goats. Parades, show classes, occasional workshops and other social
events are held throughout the year across the country. Harness
goats were very popular in Victorian and Edwardian England giving
rides at seaside resorts and were used to teach youngsters to
handle, harness and drive before graduating to horse driving.
The
parade today will be presented in period costume giving some insight
into the usefulness of harness goats, both in the past and present
day.

Flyball is a relay race for dogs, border collies traditionally
being the most successful breed because of their speed, agility
and intelligence. Two teams of dogs race against each other over

catch and hold before returning over the hurdles to the start
line. The fastest team to get all four dogs and balls home are
the winners.
